The short version: KibbleIQ is a free informational site. The grades and analyses we publish are editorial opinion based on the ingredient lists as published by manufacturers — not veterinary advice, not a lab test, and not a guarantee that any specific food is right for your specific pet. Use the site responsibly and work with your vet for medical decisions. Last updated 2026-04-17.

Who we are

These terms govern your use of kibbleiq.com and all subpages, tools, articles, and buying guides published under the KibbleIQ brand. The site is operated by Adam B. out of the United States. Contact: support@kibbleiq.com.

By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the site. That's the whole enforcement mechanism here — there is no signup, no click-through agreement, and no account to close.

What the service is

KibbleIQ provides (1) a free ingredient analyzer that returns a numeric score and letter grade for pet food formulas; (2) a library of review, comparison, and buying-guide articles produced editorially by KibbleIQ; (3) a Pro waitlist for a future paid tier that is not yet launched. All current functionality is free to use with no account required.

What the scoring is (and isn't)

Our grades and scores are editorial opinion. They reflect the application of our published scoring rubric to the ingredient list printed on the manufacturer's bag or website. They are:

  • Not veterinary advice. A grade tells you something about the general quality of a formula's ingredient panel. It does not tell you whether a particular food is right for your specific pet's age, breed, weight, activity level, allergies, or medical conditions. For medical or dietary decisions, consult a licensed veterinarian.
  • Not a laboratory test. We do not commission independent lab analysis of nutrient content, contaminants, heavy metals, or mycotoxins. Our scoring evaluates the ingredient list on the label — not an independent measurement of what's actually in the bag.
  • Not a safety certification. A passing grade on KibbleIQ is not a guarantee that a product is free of recall-worthy defects, contamination, or manufacturing errors. For active recalls, consult the FDA pet food recall database.
  • Not a static promise. Manufacturers reformulate. When we detect a reformulation, we re-run our scoring against the new ingredient list and update the published review. A score that was accurate when published may become outdated if the formula changes.

Affiliate links and commercial relationships

Some outbound links on KibbleIQ — particularly "Shop on Amazon" buttons in our buying guides — are affiliate links. If you purchase through those links, KibbleIQ may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This is disclosed on every article that contains affiliate links, and summarized here for clarity:

  • We do not accept payment, free product, or any other consideration from pet food brands in exchange for coverage, scores, or placement.
  • Our rankings and scores are made before any commercial relationship is considered, and are not adjusted based on affiliate revenue potential.
  • The editorial standards governing this are described in full on our About page.

Acceptable use

You may use KibbleIQ for personal, non-commercial reference — analyzing your own pet's food, reading our reviews, comparing products, or linking to our articles from your own sites or social media. You may not:

  • Scrape the site or the analyzer in volume. The analyzer is rate-limited to 5 requests per minute per IP, which is plenty for real human use. Automated bulk querying, especially to replicate or compete with our scoring database, is not permitted.
  • Republish our review content, grades, or rubric output without attribution and a link back. Short quotes with attribution are fine (standard fair-use expectations).
  • Use the site to attack, probe, or attempt to exploit our infrastructure or API endpoints.
  • Misrepresent KibbleIQ's grades — for example, claiming a different score than what our analyzer actually returned, or attaching our name to editorial content we did not publish.

Intellectual property

The KibbleIQ name, logo, scoring rubric, written reviews, comparison articles, buying guides, and the curated ingredient database are the intellectual property of KibbleIQ and are protected under U.S. copyright and trademark law. The rubric itself — how ingredients are weighted, which adjustments apply, the grade scale — is proprietary to KibbleIQ.

Brand names, product names, and ingredient lists discussed in our reviews belong to their respective owners and are referenced for identification and commentary under fair-use principles. Our use of a brand name does not imply endorsement by that brand, and our coverage of a brand is editorial — not sponsored or licensed.

Third-party sites and links

Articles on KibbleIQ link out to manufacturer sites, retailers (including affiliate partners), regulatory bodies (AAFCO, FDA), and peer-reviewed research databases (PubMed, WSAVA). We do not control the content, availability, or privacy practices of those third-party sites, and we are not responsible for changes they make after we link. If you notice a broken or redirected source link in one of our articles, email support@kibbleiq.com and we'll update it.

Disclaimer of warranties

KibbleIQ is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of vulnerabilities, and we do not warrant that the grades and analyses are suitable for any particular purpose. We make commercially reasonable efforts to keep the scoring rubric accurate, the ingredient database current, and the published reviews reflective of the latest formula — but we do not guarantee completeness or timeliness in any specific case.

Nothing on KibbleIQ is a substitute for licensed veterinary care. If your pet has a medical condition, a suspected dietary reaction, or any symptom you're worried about, contact a veterinarian.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, KibbleIQ, its operator, and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the site — including, without limitation, decisions you make about what to feed your pet based on information found here. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars ($100), which reflects the free and informational nature of the service.

This limitation does not apply where prohibited by law (for example, for gross negligence or willful misconduct). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

Indemnification

You agree that if a third party brings a claim against KibbleIQ because you used the site in a way that violates these terms (e.g., scraping and republishing content, attacking the infrastructure, misrepresenting our grades commercially), you will cover reasonable costs KibbleIQ incurs in responding to that claim.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the service changes materially — for example, when Pro launches with subscriptions, or when we introduce any new significant feature. The "Last updated" line at the top of the callout reflects the current revision. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which KibbleIQ is operated, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be handled in a court of competent jurisdiction in that state.
