The good stuff
The breed-specific supplements are where Royal Canin Persian earns its points back. GLA safflower oil is a targeted inclusion — gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is an omega-6 fatty acid that supports skin barrier function and coat luster. Persian cats have exceptionally long, dense coats that are prone to dryness and matting, and GLA directly addresses that. The not-so-good stuff
Chicken by-product meal as the first ingredient is the biggest problem. For a premium-priced breed-specific formula, starting with rendered by-products rather than named chicken meal or deboned chicken is a hard sell. You're paying breed-specific prices for generic-tier protein.
The grain content is heavy and redundant. Brewers rice, corn, and wheat all appear in the top five. That's three different grains before you get to any functional ingredient — and none of them are quality whole grains. Brewers rice is a processed by-product, corn is a cheap filler, and wheat contributes very little nutritional value to a cat's diet.
